Ghazal 112: The One who gave your cheek the colour of rose and wild rose

The One who gave your cheek the colour of rose and wild rose
can give patience and rest to me, the wretched.

And the One who taught your hair the custom of tyranny,
His generosity can also give justice to me, the grieving.

I gave up hope of Farhad on the very day
he handed the reins of his frenzied heart to Shirin's lip.

If there is no treasure of gold, the corner of contentment remains;
the One who gave that to kings gave this to beggars.

The world is a fine bride in outward form, but
whoever joined himself to her gave his own life as the dowry.

After this, my hand and the hem of the cypress and the edge of the stream,
especially now that the breeze has brought news of spring.

In the grip of time's sorrow the heart of Hafez has turned to blood;
for being parted from your face, O Khwaja Qavam al-Din, justice!

Interpretation of the fal

The One who placed this attachment in your heart can also give you peace and relief; put your trust there. If you lack wealth and position, contentment is no lesser treasure. Do not give your heart to the world, for its price is your life. Fresh days are coming; take refuge in nature and quiet.
