Ghazal 124: She whose hyacinth hair puts musk to the torment
She whose hyacinth hair puts musk to the torment
is once again coy and reproachful with those who lost their hearts.
You pass over the head of the one you have slain like the wind;
what can be done? It is life, and it is in a hurry.
Her moon that shows the sun, from behind the veil of her tress,
is a sun that has a cloud before it.
My eye sent a flood of tears flowing into every corner,
so that your tall cypress might have fresher water.
Your bold glance sheds my blood by mistake;
may it have its chance, for it has a sound idea.
If the water of life is what the friend's lip has,
it is clear that Khizr's share is a mirage.
Your languid eye aims through my heart at the liver;
it is a drunken Turk; perhaps it has a mind for roast meat.
My sick soul has no face to ask a question of you;
happy the weary one who has an answer from the friend.
When will it cast a glance at the weary heart of Hafez,
her drunken eye, which leaves a ruin in every corner?
Interpretation of the fal
The person you love is being cool with you again and passes by without noticing you. You have gone on standing by them with tears and affection. You do not dare ask your question, but until you ask you will get no answer. Life is passing quickly: tell them how you are, and do not just wait for a glance.
