Ghazal 139: I laid my face on her road and she did not pass by me
I laid my face on her road and she did not pass by me;
I hoped for a hundred kindnesses and she did not give one glance.
The flood of our tears did not carry the grudge from her heart;
on hard granite the raindrop made no mark.
Lord, watch over that brave young one
who took no care against the arrow of the recluses' sighs.
Fish and bird did not sleep last night for my crying,
and see that bold-eyed one, who did not lift her head from sleep.
I wanted to die at her feet like a candle;
she did not pass our way even like the breeze of dawn.
My dear, what hard-hearted, worthless person is there
who did not make his life a shield before the wound of your sword?
The pen of Hafez, its tongue cut, in the assembly
told your secret to no one until it gave up its head.
Interpretation of the fal
You have been waiting for someone's attention, and they neither passed your way nor gave you a glance. Your tears and appeals have made no impression on them. Even so you wish them no harm, and you have kept their secret. Perhaps it is time to wait a little less and to look after yourself a little more.
