Ghazal 145: I do not know what drunkenness this is that has turned our way
I do not know what drunkenness this is that has turned our way,
who the cupbearer was, and from where he brought this wine.
What tune is this minstrel playing, who knows the modes,
that in the middle of the ghazal he brought in a familiar word?
You too, get hold of wine and take the road to the open country,
for the singing bird has brought a sweet-toned instrument.
O heart, do not complain like the bud of your closed affairs,
for the wind of morning has brought a knot-loosing breeze.
May the arrival of rose and wild rose be for good and well-being;
the violet came glad and graceful, the jasmine brought purity.
The morning breeze, with its good tidings, is Solomon's hoopoe,
which brought news of joy from the rose garden of Sheba.
The cure for our heart's weakness is the cupbearer's glance;
lift your head, for the physician has come and brought the remedy.
I am the disciple of the Magian elder; do not be offended, O sheikh,
for you made the promise and he fulfilled it.
I glory in the narrow eyes of that soldier Turk
who made his attack on me, a dervish with one cloak.
The sky now serves Hafez willingly as a slave,
since he has sought refuge at the door of your fortune.
Interpretation of the fal
This fal is full of good news: the gladness and relief you were waiting for have arrived. The knot in your affairs is coming undone, so stop complaining. The cure for your heart is on its way; lift your head. The one who promised may not have delivered, but another has come to your aid. By seeking shelter in the right place, you bring fortune to your side.
