Ghazal 156: In beauty, character and faithfulness no one comes near our friend

به حسن و خلق و وفا کس به یار ما نرسد
تو را در این سخن، انکار کار ما نرسد

اگرچه حسن‌فروشان به جلوه آمده‌اند
کسی به حسن و ملاحت به یار ما نرسد

به حق صحبت دیرین که هیچ محرم راز
به یار یک جهت حق‌گزار ما نرسد

هزار نقش برآید ز کلک صنع و یکی
به دلپذیری نقش نگار ما نرسد

هزار نقد به بازار کائنات آرند
یکی به سکهٔ صاحب عیار ما نرسد

دریغ قافله عمر کآنچنان رفتند
که گردشان به هوای دیار ما نرسد

دلا ز رنج حسودان مرنج و واثق باش
که بد به خاطر امیدوار ما نرسد

چنان بزی که اگر خاک ره شوی کس را
غبار خاطری از رهگذار ما نرسد

بسوخت حافظ و ترسم که شرح قصهٔ او
به سمع پادشه کامگار ما نرسد

In beauty, character and faithfulness no one comes near our friend;
in this matter it is not for you to deny our case.

Though the sellers of beauty have come out to display themselves,
no one in beauty and charm comes near our friend.

By the claim of old companionship, no keeper of secrets
comes near our single-hearted, loyal friend.

A thousand pictures come from the pen of creation, and not one
comes near the picture of our beloved in charm.

They bring a thousand coins to the market of the universe;
not one comes near the coin of our assayer.

Alas for the caravan of life, which went in such a way
that their dust does not come near the air of our country.

O heart, do not be hurt by the malice of the envious, and be sure
that no evil comes near our hopeful mind.

Live in such a way that if you become dust of the road,
no dust of grievance comes to anyone from our passing.

Hafez burned, and I fear the account of his story
will not come to the hearing of our fortunate king.
