Ghazal 171: Last night a messenger of good news came from Asaf's court

دوش از جناب آصف، پیک بشارت آمد
کز حضرت سلیمان، عشرت اشارت آمد

خاک وجود ما را، از آب دیده گل کن
ویران‌سرای دل را، گاه عمارت آمد

این شرح بی‌نهایت، کز زلف یار گفتند
حرفی‌ست از هزاران، کاندر عبارت آمد

عیبم بپوش زنهار، ای خرقهٔ می‌آلود
کآن پاک پاک‌دامن، بهر زیارت آمد

امروز جای هر کس، پیدا شود ز خوبان
کآن ماه مجلس‌افروز، اندر صدارت آمد

بر تخت جم که تاجش، معراج آسمان است
همت نگر که موری، با آن حقارت آمد

از چشم شوخش ای دل! ایمان خود نگه دار
کآن جادوی کمانکش، بر عزم غارت آمد

آلوده‌ای تو حافظ، فیضی ز شاه درخواه
کآن عنصر سماحت، بهر طهارت آمد

دریاست مجلس او، دریاب وقت و در یاب
هان ای زیان‌رسیده وقت تجارت آمد

Last night a messenger of good news came from Asaf's court:
from Solomon's presence the signal for rejoicing has come.

Knead the dust of our being into clay with the water of your eyes;
the time has come to rebuild the ruined house of the heart.

This endless account that they have given of the friend's tress
is one word out of thousands that has come into speech.

Take care to hide my fault, O wine-stained cloak,
for that pure one of spotless skirt has come to visit.

Today the place of each of the beautiful will be made clear,
for that moon who lights the assembly has come to the seat of honour.

To the throne of Jamshid, whose crown is the ladder to the sky,
see the resolve with which an ant, for all its smallness, has come.

O heart, guard your faith from her bold eye,
for that sorceress with the drawn bow has come intent on plunder.

You are stained, Hafez; ask a grace from the king,
for that essence of generosity has come to make you clean.

His gathering is a sea; seize the time and find the pearl.
You who have suffered loss, the time for trade has come.
