Ghazal 202: Will it be that they open the doors of the taverns

بود آیا که در میکده‌ها بگشایند؟
گره از کار فروبستهٔ ما بگشایند؟

اگر از بهر دل زاهد خودبین بستند
دل قوی دار که از بهر خدا بگشایند

به صفای دل رندان صبوحی‌زدگان
بس در بسته به مفتاح دعا بگشایند

نامهٔ تعزیت دختر رز بنویسید
تا همه مغبچگان زلف دوتا بگشایند

گیسوی چنگ ببرید به مرگ می ناب
تا حریفان همه خون از مژه‌ها بگشایند

در میخانه ببستند خدایا مپسند
که در خانهٔ تزویر و ریا بگشایند

حافظ این خرقه که داری تو ببینی فردا
که چه زنار ز زیرش به دغا بگشایند

Will it be that they open the doors of the taverns,
and untie the knot from our tangled affair?

If they closed them for the sake of the self-regarding ascetic's heart,
keep your heart strong, for they will open them for the sake of God.

By the purity of heart of the rends who drink the morning cup,
many a closed door is opened with the key of prayer.

Write a letter of condolence for the daughter of the vine,
so that all the Magian youths may let down their double tresses.

Cut the hair of the harp for the death of pure wine,
so that all the companions may let blood flow from their lashes.

They have closed the door of the tavern; O God, do not approve
that they should open the door of the house of deceit and hypocrisy.

Hafez, this cloak that you wear, tomorrow you will see
what an infidel's girdle they uncover beneath it, to your shame.
