Ghazal 228: If I pick one fruit from your garden, what will it matter?

If I pick one fruit from your garden, what will it matter?
If I see the ground before my feet by your lamp, what will it matter?

O Lord, in the shelter of the shade of that tall cypress,
if I, who am burnt, sit for one moment, what will it matter?

After all, O seal of Jamshid of auspicious signs,
if your reflection falls on the engraving of my signet, what will it matter?

Since the preacher of the city has chosen the love of king and police chief,
if I choose the love of a beauty, what will it matter?

My reason has left the house, and if this is the wine,
I have seen beforehand what will happen in the house of my faith.

My precious life has been spent on beloved and wine;
let us see what comes to me from the one and what becomes of me from the other.

The master knew that I was in love and said nothing;
if Hafez too knows that I am so, what will it matter?

Interpretation of the fal

What you want is small and harmless, and it is right to say it aloud: a little kindness from one who has plenty takes nothing away from them. Others have their own attachments, so do not be ashamed of yours. Even so, weigh what it costs you, and remember that life is precious.
