Ghazal 241: Companions, remember the comrade of your nights

معاشران ز حریف شبانه یاد آرید
حقوق بندگی مخلصانه یاد آرید

به وقت سرخوشی از آه و ناله عشاق
به صوت و نغمهٔ چنگ و چغانه یاد آرید

چو لطف باده کند جلوه در رخ ساقی
ز عاشقان به سرود و ترانه یاد آرید

چو در میان مراد آورید دست امید
ز عهد صحبت ما در میانه یاد آرید

سمند دولت اگر چند سرکشیده رود
ز همرهان به سر تازیانه یاد آرید

نمی‌خورید زمانی غم وفاداران
ز بی‌وفایی دور زمانه یاد آرید

به وجه مرحمت ای ساکنان صدر جلال
ز روی حافظ و این آستانه یاد آرید

Companions, remember the comrade of your nights;
remember what is owed to sincere service.

In the hour of merriment, the sighs and laments of lovers,
to the sound and melody of harp and rattle, remember.

When the grace of wine shows itself in the cupbearer's face,
remember the lovers with song and with melody.

When you clasp the hand of hope around the waist of your desire,
remember, among yourselves, the days of our companionship.

However headstrong the steed of fortune may run,
remember your fellow travellers with a touch of the whip.

You do not for one moment grieve for those who are faithful;
remember the faithlessness of the turning of time.

By way of mercy, O you who dwell on the seat of glory,
remember the face of Hafez and this threshold.
