Ghazal 251: It is the night of union, and the letter of separation is folded away
It is the night of union, and the letter of separation is folded away;
"Peace it is, until the rising of the dawn."
O heart, be firm of foot in love,
for on this road there is no work without its reward.
I will not repent of being a rend,
even if you torment me with banishment and with stones.
Rise, O morning of the bright heart, for God's sake,
for I find the night of separation very dark.
My heart has gone and I have not seen the face of its keeper;
alas for this tyranny, alas for this torment!
If you want faithfulness, be one who bears cruelty, Hafez,
for in trade there is both profit and loss.
Interpretation of the fal
The time of separation is ending and the hour of meeting is near. Stay firm in your love and on your path, for no effort on this road goes unrewarded. If there is still darkness and longing, morning is close. Do you want loyalty? Then bear the hardship too: every dealing has its profit and its loss.
