Ghazal 287: O you whose every feature is pleasing and every part delightful
O you whose every feature is pleasing and every part delightful,
my heart is glad at your sweet, sugar-scattering airs.
Like a fresh rose petal, your being is delicate;
like the cypress in the meadow of paradise, you are delightful from head to foot.
Your manner and your pride are sweet, your down and mole are charming;
your eye and eyebrow are beautiful, your stature and your height delightful.
The rose garden of my imagination is filled by you with pictures and designs,
and the nostrils of my heart are gladdened by your jasmine-scented tress.
On the road of love, where there is no crossing the flood of affliction,
I have made my mind glad with longing for you.
What thanks can I give for your eye, which with all its languor
makes my pain pleasant through your beautiful face?
In the desert of seeking, though there is danger on every side,
heart-lost Hafez goes on gladly in devotion to you.
Interpretation of the fal
Your heart is glad because of someone or something you love, and that gladness makes even your sufferings pleasant. The road is full of danger, but with this love and hope you are travelling it gladly. Keep your heart alight with longing for them and do not fear the dangers: the outcome is good.
