Ghazal 312: Good news, for safety has alighted at Dhu Salam

بشری اذ السلامة حلت بذی سلم
لله حمد معترف غایة النعم

آن خوش خبر کجاست؟ که این فتح، مژده داد
تا جان فشانمش چو زر و سیم در قدم

از بازگشت شاه در این طرفه منزل است
آهنگ خصم او به سراپردهٔ عدم

پیمان شکن هرآینه گردد شکسته حال
ان العهود عند ملیک النهی ذمم

می‌جست از سحاب امل رحمتی ولی
جز دیده‌اش معاینه بیرون نداد نم

در نیل غم فتاد؛ سپهرش به طنز گفت
الآن قد ندمت و ما ینفع الندم؟

ساقی چو یار مه رخ و از اهل راز بود
حافظ بخورد باده و شیخ و فقیه هم

Good news, for safety has alighted at Dhu Salam;
to God be the praise of one who acknowledges the utmost of blessings.

Where is that bearer of good tidings who announced this victory,
that I may scatter my life at his feet like gold and silver?

With the return of the king to this wondrous dwelling,
his enemy is making for the pavilion of non-existence.

The breaker of covenants will assuredly be broken in his fortunes;
truly, with the lord of understanding covenants are sacred pledges.

He was looking for some mercy from the cloud of hope, but
nothing gave out moisture, plainly, except his own eye.

He fell into the Nile of grief; the sky said to him in mockery:
"Now you are sorry, and what use is being sorry?"

Since the cupbearer was a moon-faced friend and one who knew the secret,
Hafez drank wine, and so did the shaykh and the jurist.
