Ghazal 34: The portico of my eye's outlook is your nest
The portico of my eye's outlook is your nest;
be gracious and alight, for the house is your house.
With the grace of mole and down you stole the hearts of the knowing;
wonderful subtleties lie beneath your snare and grain.
May your heart be glad in union with the rose, O nightingale of the dawn breeze,
for in the meadow every call is your song of love.
Assign the cure of our heart's weakness to your lip,
for that ruby cordial is in your treasury.
In body I fall short of the fortune of attending you,
but the essence of my soul is the dust of your threshold.
I am not one to give the coin of my heart to every flirt;
the treasury door bears your seal and your mark.
What a wonder you are, O royal rider of sweet craft,
that a wild horse like the sky is tame to your whip.
What place have I, when the juggling sky itself would slip
at these tricks that are in your bag of pretexts?
Now the song of your gathering sets the heavens dancing,
for the verse of sweet-spoken Hafez is your melody.
Interpretation of the fal
Your heart and home are ready to receive the one you love, and your loyalty belongs to them alone. The cure for your longing is in that person's hands. Even if you are apart, your heart is with them. This is a good fal: union and happiness are near, and your words will touch their heart.
