Ghazal 394: O you whose moon-like face is the new spring of beauty
O you whose moon-like face is the new spring of beauty,
your mole and your down are the centre and the orbit of beauty.
In your languorous eye the spell of magic lies hidden;
in your restless tress the steadiness of beauty is plain to see.
No moon ever shone like you from the tower of loveliness;
no cypress ever rose like your stature from the stream of beauty.
The age of winning hearts has grown glad through your charm;
the days of beauty have been made fortunate by your grace.
Because of the snare of your tress and the grain of your mole, in all the world
not one bird of a heart is left that has not become the prey of beauty.
Always, with kindness, from the very midst of the soul, the nurse that is nature
is rearing you tenderly in the lap of beauty.
The violet about your lip is fresh and moist for this reason:
that it drinks the water of life from the stream of beauty.
Hafez has given up hope of ever seeing your equal;
there is no dweller but your face in the land of beauty.
Interpretation of the fal
Your heart has been taken by someone who, in your eyes, has no equal in beauty and grace, and many others are captivated by them too. Be glad of this attachment, but know that you are not the only one. Do not hope to find their like. This fal speaks of complete devotion: be honest about it, and value what lights up your heart.
