Ghazal 410: O you on whose stature the robe of kingship fits exactly

ای قبای پادشاهی، راست بر بالای تو
زینت تاج و نگین از گوهر والای تو

آفتاب فتح را هر دم طلوعی می‌دهد
از کلاه خسروی رخسار مه‌سیمای تو

جلوه‌گاه طایر اقبال باشد هر کجا
سایه‌ اندازد همای چتر گردون‌سای تو

از رسوم شرع و حکمت با هزاران اختلاف
نکته‌ای هرگز نشد فوت از دل دانای تو

آب حیوانش ز منقار بلاغت می‌چکد
طوطی خوش‌لهجه یعنی کلک شکرخای تو

گرچه خورشید فلک چشم و چراغ عالم است
روشنایی‌بخش چشم اوست خاک پای تو

آن چه اسکندر طلب کرد و ندادش روزگار
جرعه‌ای بود از زلال جام جان‌افزای تو

عرض حاجت در حریم حضرتت محتاج نیست
راز کس مخفی نماند با فروغ رای تو

خسروا ! پیرانه‌سر، حافظ جوانی می‌کند
بر امید عفو جان‌بخش گنه‌فرسای تو

O you on whose stature the robe of kingship fits exactly;
crown and signet take their ornament from your high nature.

Your moon-like face, from under the royal cap,
gives a new rising every moment to the sun of victory.

Wherever the huma of your sky-touching canopy casts its shadow
becomes the place where the bird of fortune shows itself.

Of the rules of law and of wisdom, with their thousand differences,
not one point has ever escaped your knowing heart.

The water of life drips from its beak of eloquence:
that sweet-voiced parrot, I mean your sugar-chewing pen.

Though the sun in the sky is the eye and the lamp of the world,
it is the dust of your foot that gives light to its eye.

What Alexander sought, and time did not give him,
was one draught of the clear water of your life-increasing cup.

In the sanctuary of your presence there is no need to state one's need;
no one's secret remains hidden from the light of your judgement.

O king, in his old age Hafez is acting like a young man,
in hope of your pardon, which gives life and wears sin away.
