Ghazal 468: Who will carry a message from me, a beggar, to the kings

Who will carry a message from me, a beggar, to the kings:
that in the lane of the wine sellers two thousand Jamshids go for one cup?

I have become ruined and of ill fame, and still I hope
that by the resolve of dear friends I may reach a good name.

You who deal in the elixir, cast a glance on our false coin,
for we have no capital and have set out a snare.

I wonder at the faithfulness of the beloved, who showed no favour:
neither a message by letter nor a greeting by the pen.

Whether this wine is raw or that companion ripe,
one raw is a thousand times better than a thousand ripe.

Do not turn me from my road, O shaykh, with the beads of the rosary,
for when a bird is clever it falls into no snare.

I mean to serve you: buy me with kindness and do not sell me,
for a slave as auspicious as this servant seldom comes to hand.

Where shall I take my complaint? To whom shall I tell this story?
That your lip was our life, and you did not last.

Loose the arrow of your eyelashes and shed the blood of Hafez,
for no one takes vengeance on a killer such as you.

Interpretation of the fal

For all the ill repute and hardship, you are still hopeful, and the hope is justified: with the help of friends a good name returns. Ask for the attention of someone who is able to transform you. You are hurt by someone's silence and lack of faith. Do not be taken in by the look of the pious. You are ready to serve and be loyal: ask them to accept you and not let you go.
