Ghazal 480: O you who show no forbearance in killing us

O you who show no forbearance in killing us,
who burn both profit and capital and have no scruple.

Those who suffer affliction carry a deadly poison;
to set upon such people is a mistake: take care that you do not.

Our suffering could be taken away by one corner of your eye;
it is not what fairness requires that you should give no remedy.

Since our eye has become a sea in hope of you, why
do you not pass along the shore of that sea for pleasure?

Every cruelty that they have reported of your generous nature
is the talk of those with an interest: you do no such things.

If our beauty should show himself to you, O ascetic,
you would ask God for nothing but wine and the beloved.

Hafez, bow down to his eyebrow, which is like a prayer niche,
for you offer no prayer in sincerity except there.

Interpretation of the fal

You are hurt by the severity of the one you love, when a little attention from them would cure your pain: put that to them. What is said about their lack of affection may be the talk of ill-wishers: do not judge quickly. The sighs of the broken-hearted have their effect. Your heart is truly at rest only beside them.
