Ghazal 106: May your body never need the favours of physicians
May your body never need the favours of physicians;
may your delicate being never be hurt by harm.
The health of all the horizons lies in your health;
may your person never be pained by any illness.
The beauty of form and of meaning rests on the safety of your health;
may your outward never be downcast nor your inward sad.
When autumn comes plundering into this meadow,
may it find no way to the tall, straight cypress.
On that carpet where your beauty begins to show itself,
may there be no room for the taunts of the ill-wishing and ill-judging.
Whoever looks on your moon-like face with an evil eye,
may nothing but his own life be the wild rue seed on your fire.
Seek healing in the sugar-scattering speech of Hafez,
that you may have no need of the cure of rosewater and candy.
Interpretation of the fal
This fal is a prayer for health: for you, or for someone dear you are worried about, it wishes well-being and safety from harm. Whatever illness or trouble there is will ease. Do not fear the evil eye or the talk of ill-wishers. Calm your heart and take comfort in kind words and hope.
