Ghazal 132: With the bright water of wine a gnostic made his ablution
With the bright water of wine a gnostic made his ablution
early in the morning, when he visited the tavern.
As soon as the golden cup of the sun was hidden,
the crescent of the festival signalled for the round of the cup.
Happy the prayer and pleading of one who, from true pain,
made his ablution with tears and his liver's blood.
The master imam, who had a mind for long prayers,
washed his cloak clean in the blood of the daughter of the vine.
My heart bought turmoil with its life from the ring of her tress;
what profit it saw I do not know, that it made this trade.
If the leader of the congregation asks for him today,
let it be known that Hafez made his ablution with wine.
Interpretation of the fal
True purity comes from a heart that feels and from honest tears, not from appearances. This is a time of relief and gladness. Your heart has paid a high price for an attachment and you do not yet know what good is in it; wait until that becomes clear. Be honest with yourself and others, and show yourself as you are.
