Ghazal 164: The breath of the morning breeze will scatter musk

The breath of the morning breeze will scatter musk;
the old world will become young once more.

The Judas tree will hand a cup of carnelian to the jasmine;
the eye of the narcissus will gaze upon the anemone.

After the tyranny he bore from the grief of parting, the nightingale
will go crying aloud right up to the pavilion of the rose.

If I went from the mosque to the tavern, do not find fault;
the sermon is long and the time will pass.

O heart, if you put off today's pleasure until tomorrow,
who will stand surety for the capital of your remaining life?

In the month of Sha'ban do not put the cup down, for this sun
will be out of sight until the night of the festival after Ramadan.

The rose is precious; count its company a gain,
for it came into the garden by this way and will leave by that.

Minstrel, it is a gathering of friends; sing a ghazal and a song.
How long will you say: it went thus, and it will be so?

Hafez came into the realm of existence for your sake;
take a step to bid him farewell, for he will soon be going.

Interpretation of the fal

This is a favourable fal: times are being renewed, and youth and freshness are returning. A period of separation is coming to an end. Do not put off today's happiness until tomorrow, for no one guarantees tomorrow. Value the company of those dear to you, because it passes quickly. Talk less of past and future, and take hold of this moment.
