Ghazal 231: I said: "I grieve for you." He said: "Your grief will come to an end."
I said: "I grieve for you." He said: "Your grief will come to an end."
I said: "Be my moon." He said: "If it should rise."
I said: "Learn the custom of faithfulness from those who love."
He said: "From the fair of face this seldom comes."
I said: "I will bar the road of my sight against your image."
He said: "It travels by night; it will come by another road."
I said: "The scent of your tress has led me astray in the world."
He said: "If you only knew, that same scent will be your guide."
I said: "Happy the air that rises with the morning wind."
He said: "Fresh is the breeze that comes from the street of the beloved."
I said: "The sweetness of your ruby lip has killed us with longing."
He said: "Be a servant, for it takes care of those who serve."
I said: "When does your merciful heart mean to make peace?"
He said: "Tell no one, until the time for it arrives."
I said: "Did you see how the season of pleasure came to an end?"
He said: "Hush, Hafez, for this sorrow too will come to an end."
Interpretation of the fal
This is an encouraging fal: your sorrow will come to an end, just as the happy days once did. The very thing that has left you bewildered will become your guide. Stay steady and devoted in what you want, and do not speak of it to anyone until the right time comes. Reconciliation and relief are on the way.
