Ghazal 247: East wind, do not grudge a visit to the dwelling of the beloved

East wind, do not grudge a visit to the dwelling of the beloved,
and do not grudge the heart-lost lover news of him.

In thanks that you have blossomed as fortune wished, O rose,
do not grudge the bird of dawn the breeze of union.

I was the companion of your love when you were a new moon;
now that you are a full moon, do not grudge me a glance.

The world and everything in it is slight and small;
do not grudge this small thing to the people of knowledge.

Now that your sweet ruby lip is a fountain of sugar,
speak, and do not grudge sugar to the parrot.

The poet carries your noble qualities to the horizons;
do not grudge him his stipend and provisions for the road.

Since you seek to be well remembered, this is the word:
do not grudge silver and gold as the price of speech.

The dust of grief will pass, and things will turn well, Hafez;
do not grudge the water of your eyes along this road.

Interpretation of the fal

Now that someone has reached success and standing, you expect kindness and attention from them; you were with them in the early days, and the wish is fair. Ask for it openly. If you yourself are in a position to give, do not hold back from people of talent and knowledge, for that is how a good name lasts. Your sorrow will pass.
