Ghazal 383: However much I told my grief to the physicians

However much I told my grief to the physicians,
they did not cure the poor strangers.

That rose which at every moment is in the hand of some wind,
tell it to feel shame before the nightingales.

O Lord, grant safe passage, so that once again
the eyes of the lovers may see the faces of the beloved.

The casket of love no longer bears its own seal;
O Lord, may the wish of the rivals never be fulfilled.

O giver of bounty, at the table of your generosity,
how long are we to be among those without a share?

Hafez, you would not have become the madman of the world
if you had listened to the advice of the wise.

Interpretation of the fal

You have told your pain to many and found no cure. The one you love leans in every direction and lacks the loyalty that is needed. Ask God to make a reunion possible and to disappoint those who wish you ill. You have a complaint about a share that has not reached you: ask for it. Had you listened to the advice of the wise, you would not be so bewildered.
