Ghazal 390: The crown of the Sultan Rose has appeared at the edge of the meadow

The crown of the Sultan Rose has appeared at the edge of the meadow;
O Lord, may his coming be blessed to the cypress and the jasmine.

This royal seating was fine in its own proper place,
so that now everyone may sit in a place that is their own.

Give the seal of Jamshid the good news of a fair ending,
for the Greatest Name has cut the demon's hand away from it.

May this house flourish for ever, from the dust of whose door
at every breath the wind of Yemen blows with the scent of the Merciful.

The majesty of the son of Pashang and his world-conquering sword
have become, in all the books of kings, the tale told in every assembly.

The polo horse of the sky has grown tame beneath your saddle;
O royal rider, since you have come onto the field, strike the ball.

The running water in the stream of the kingdom is your sword;
plant the tree of justice, and pull up the roots of those who wish ill.

After this it will be no wonder if, at the fragrance of your gracious nature,
a musk-pod of Khotan rises from the plain of Izaj.

Those who sit in their corners are waiting for a fair appearance;
tilt back the edge of your cap and throw the veil from your face.

I took counsel with reason, and it said: "Hafez, drink wine."
Cupbearer, give wine, on the word of a counsellor who can be trusted.

O east wind, put it before the cupbearer of the Atabeg's banquet
that from that gold-scattering cup he should grant a draught to me.

Interpretation of the fal

This is an auspicious fal: someone worthy has reached their true position, and everything is falling into its place. Those who wished ill have stepped aside, and matters will end well. Now that the field is ready, set to work and act justly. Show yourself: others are waiting for you. Ask the generous one for your share.
