Ghazal 405: By the life of the elder of the tavern and the right of his company

By the life of the elder of the tavern and the right of his company,
there is nothing in my head but the wish to serve him.

Though paradise is not the place for sinners,
bring wine, for I rely on his high resolve.

May the lamp of the lightning of that cloud be bright
which struck our harvest with the fire of his love.

If you see a head on the threshold of the tavern,
do not kick it, for its intention is not known.

Come, for last night, in drunkenness, the angel of the unseen world
gave the good news that the grace of His mercy is for all.

Do not look with contempt on me in my drunkenness,
for there is neither sin nor piety without His will.

My heart has no leaning to asceticism and repentance, but
we will strive in the name of the master and the glory of his fortune.

The cloak of Hafez is always in pawn for wine;
perhaps his nature was made from the dust of the tavern.

Interpretation of the fal

You are attached to a guide or a person of standing and want nothing but to serve them: this loyalty has its reward. Do not despair over your lapses: mercy covers everyone. Do not look down on anyone for their appearance, since the intentions of hearts are hidden. What is in your nature does not change: be honest about it, and work with the support of that person.
