Ghazal 494: O heart, if you come up out of that pit in the chin

O heart, if you come up out of that pit in the chin,
wherever you go, you will soon come away regretting it.

Take care: if you give ear to the whisperings of reason,
you will come out of the garden of paradise as Adam did.

It may be that the sky will not help you with a drop of water,
if you come away with thirsty lips from the spring of life.

I am giving my life in longing to see you, like the dawn;
perhaps you will come out like the shining sun.

I will set the breath of my resolve on you, like the east wind,
until you come out of the bud like a rose, fresh and laughing.

In the dark night of separation from you my soul has come to my lips;
it is time that you came out like the shining moon.

I have set two hundred streams running from my eyes across your path,
in the hope that you will come out like a swaying cypress.

Hafez, have no anxious thought, for that Joseph with the face of the moon
will return, and you will come out of the hut of sorrows.

Interpretation of the fal

Do not leave the attachment you have: if you let it go, you will regret it. Do not listen to the promptings of calculation, and do not lose the chance that is in your hands. The night of separation has been hard and long and you are at the end of your strength, but the time of their appearing is near. Do not worry: the lost dear one will return and your sorrow will end.
