Ghazal 56: The heart is the pavilion of his love

The heart is the pavilion of his love;
the eye holds the mirror to his face.

I, who bow my head to neither of the two worlds,
my neck is under the burden of his favour.

You and the tree of paradise, we and the stature of the friend;
each one's thought is the measure of his aspiration.

If my skirt is stained, what wonder?
The whole world is witness to his purity.

Who am I in that sanctuary, where the morning breeze
is the curtain keeper of the precinct of his honour?

May the view from my eye never be without his image,
for this corner is the place of his retreat.

Every new rose that came to adorn the meadow
is the effect of the colour and scent of his company.

Majnun's time is past and it is our turn;
everyone has his turn for five days.

The kingdom of love and the treasure of joy,
all that I have comes from the blessing of his care.

If my heart and I are sacrificed, what of it?
The aim in all this is his well-being.

Do not look at the outward poverty, for Hafez's
breast is the treasury of his love.

Interpretation of the fal

Your heart and eyes are full of love for someone, and you rightly see everything good you have as coming from that love. Keep your aspirations high and do not settle for less than your heart wants. It is your turn now, so use the chance. Do not dwell on outward lack: your real wealth is this heart full of love.
