Ghazal 6: Who will carry this prayer to the attendants of the sultan

Who will carry this prayer to the attendants of the sultan:
in thanks for your kingship, do not drive the beggar from your sight?

From the demon-natured rival I take refuge in my God;
may that piercing meteor lend help, for God's sake!

If your black lashes have signalled for our blood,
consider their deceit and make no mistake, my beauty.

You burn the heart of a whole world when you set your cheek aglow;
what do you gain from this, that you show no gentleness?

All night I live in this hope, that the breeze of dawn
will comfort the friend with a message from friends.

What a resurrection it is, my dear, that you showed to the lovers!
Heart and soul be the ransom of your face; show us your cheek.

For God's sake, give a draught to Hafez who rises at dawn,
that the morning prayer may work some good for you.

Interpretation of the fal

You are hoping for help from someone with the power to give it, and a rival's ill will troubles you. Put your trust in God and do not be taken in by appearances. You have been waiting through the night for good news, and it will arrive. Your sincere prayers carry weight; state your request with humility.
